Full Closure of QEII Bridge and Tunnel Closures Scheduled This Weekend

Drivers are being warned to expect delays and diversions as the QEII Bridge and several tunnels will be closed over the weekend for maintenance and improvement works.

The closures will begin with nightly shut-downs of the Dartford Crossing’s West Tunnel on Friday night, followed by a full closure of the QEII Bridge on Saturday, September 14, from 10pm until 5am on Sunday, September 15. Additional closures are also planned for the East Tunnel later in the weekend.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via the National Highways network during these periods. The Dartford Crossing, formerly known as the Dartford Tunnel, is a critical road crossing over the River Thames, connecting Dartford in Kent with Thurrock in Essex via the A282 road.

Planned Closures:

Friday, September 13 – Saturday, September 14

Saturday, September 14 – Sunday, September 15

  • A282 Northbound
    • East Tunnel: Closed 9pm – 5:30am (Contraflow works)
    • Diversion: Via National Highways roads
  • A282 Southbound
    • QEII Bridge: Closed 10pm – 5am (Maintenance works)
    • Diversion: Traffic to use East Tunnel in contraflow

Sunday, September 15 – Monday, September 16

  • A282 Northbound
    • East Tunnel: Closed 10pm – 5am (Maintenance works)
    • Diversion: Via National Highways roads

Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and to check for updates closer to their travel dates, as these scheduled closures may be subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or other factors.
