A Gateshead man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the rape and sexual assault of a schoolgirl, following a harrowing investigation by Northumbria Police.
Kenneth Dick, 66, of Ryde Terrace, Dunston, was found guilty of subjecting the young victim to a series of horrific and degrading acts, including forcing her to perform sexual acts. In addition to his custodial sentence, Dick will serve an extra year on licence following his release and has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
A Case Built on Courage
The abuse came to light in June 2021 when the survivor found the strength to confide in a family member, prompting an immediate referral to police. Northumbria Police launched a full investigation, which led to Dick’s arrest and interview.
Northumbria Police added:
“We hope this conviction serves as a stark warning to those who think they can take advantage of a vulnerable person. We won’t tolerate this type of behaviour, and there are serious and lifelong consequences.”
Support and Safeguarding
Dick will be subject to strict monitoring conditions during his post-release licence period, and his lifelong SHPO will limit his ability to reoffend.

Meanwhile, support for survivors continues to grow. Organisations such as Barnardo’s, NSPCC, and Victim Support work alongside police to offer counselling, advocacy, and safeguarding services.
