A major fire near Totton is being tackled by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service after a blaze broke out this afternoon on Salisbury Road. The fire, which began in a camper van, quickly spread to an adjacent barn containing around 500 bales of hay, necessitating a large emergency response.
Eight fire engines, along with water carriers and other specialist vehicles, were deployed to the scene around 4 p.m. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently using four jets to control the blaze.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue advised residents in the area, especially those near junction 2 of the M27, to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke drifting from the site. Drivers are also urged to exercise caution while travelling near the affected area.
The fire service continues to work to contain the blaze and prevent further spread, with crews expected to remain on-site for several hours.
