Firefighters sprang into action today after a bus burst into flames in Twickenham, sparking scenes of panic and chaos.

Footage shared online captured the dramatic moment as London Fire Brigade (LFB) personnel battled the inferno engulfing the vehicle in the middle of Richmond Road this afternoon.

According to an LFB spokesperson, five fire engines and approximately 30 firefighters rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze.

One diesel single decker bus was destroyed by the fire. All passengers and the driver left the bus before the Brigade’s arrival. There are no reports of any injuries,” the spokesperson confirmed.

Despite the swift response, the road remains closed, with authorities advising people to avoid the area for the remainder of the day.

The incident unfolded at 1:18 PM, and firefighters brought the situation under control by 2:26 PM. Crews from Twickenham, Richmond, Heston, and Kingston fire stations were mobilized to address the emergency.

The cause of the fire is under investigation,” the spokesperson added, highlighting the urgency of determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This event marks another unfortunate incident involving a London bus this year. In January alone, fires broke out on buses at Putney Bus Garage, North Woolwich, and Wimbledon, underscoring concerns about public safety and transport reliability.

Moreover, bus users in southwest London have faced months of uncertainty, with planned strikes by bus workers causing disruption to essential routes. Fortunately, around 40 members of control room staff, based in Battersea and Twickenham, recently called off a proposed strike after successful negotiations with Transport UK, formerly known as Abellio.

While the cause of today’s bus fire remains under investigation, authorities emphasize the importance of ensuring the safety and security of London’s public transport system.
