A major fire broke out at an industrial estate on Willoughby Drive, off Rainham Road South, Dagenham, sending a massive plume of black smoke into the sky that was visible for miles around.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

The London Fire Brigade was called to the scene around 2 pm today, with approximately 70 firefighters from Dagenham, Barking, Wennington, Hornchurch, Romford, and surrounding stations working tirelessly to control the inferno.

The fire erupted among three containers, burning vehicles, and scrap metal, prompting over 50 calls from the public who spotted the towering chimney of smoke.

Quick Action Prevents Disaster

Firefighters successfully removed two gas cylinders from the scene to prevent them from exploding. Thanks to their rapid response and coordinated efforts, the fire was brought under control by around 4:20 pm.
He also urged motorists to avoid Rainham Road South due to road closures while emergency crews remained on-site.
