A section of the M20 coastbound has been closed after a lorry jackknifed and struck a bridge, causing significant disruption.
The incident happened around 2:30 am between Junction 8 (Leeds Castle / Maidstone Services) and Junction 9 (Ashford), with the HGV blocking the carriageway and scattering debris across the road.
Emergency Response Underway
Kent Police and National Highways Traffic Officers are at the scene, working to manage the situation. Plans are being made to release traffic trapped behind the accident, but delays are expected throughout the morning.
National Highways has confirmed that specialist equipment is required to clear the road, and efforts are underway to source and deploy it.
Diversion Route in Place
Motorists travelling coastbound are being diverted and advised to follow the hollow circle symbol on road signs:
• Exit the M20 at Junction 8.
• Take the third exit at the roundabout.
• At the next roundabout, take the first exit onto the A20.
• Follow the A20 to the junction with Fougeres Way, then turn northward towards Junction 9.
• Rejoin the M20 eastbound at Junction 9.
