Lancing Man Jailed for Abusing Woman and Threatening to Kill Family

A Lancing man has been jailed after subjecting a woman to years of domestic abuse and threatening to kill her and members of his own family.

Luke Maddran, 38, of no fixed address, was sentenced to six years and two months in prison at Hove Crown Court on Monday, 24 February, after pleading guilty to multiple offences including intentional strangulation, coercive and controlling behaviour, actual bodily harm, and making threats to kill.
Following the woman’s report, Sussex Police launched an urgent search and arrested Maddran later that same day. He was charged with two counts of intentional strangulation, coercive and controlling behaviour, assault causing actual bodily harm, and making threatening communications. He was immediately remanded in custody.

At Hove Trial Centre on 20 February, Maddran admitted all charges.

In addition to his prison sentence, Maddran has been handed a 14-year restraining order, prohibiting any contact with the victims or their children, and banning him from entering West Sussex for the duration of the order.

Detective Inspector Matt Phelps said:
“Luke Maddran is an extremely dangerous individual, who made vile threats that he has repeatedly proven he is capable of fulfilling.

“He subjected the woman in this investigation to years of violent and psychological torment, before causing his own family to fear for their lives.

“I would like to thank all the victims for their courage in reporting Maddran and supporting the investigation despite the trauma they suffered at his hands.

“If you are a victim of domestic violence, please report it to police. We will do all we can to get you to safety and hold your abuser to account.”
