Major Fire Engulfs Industrial Estate in Rainham – UKNIP

An industrial estate containing multiple units in Rainham is currently ablaze, with twenty fire engines and approximately 125 firefighters battling the fire since 1 pm today (June 20).

A 25-meter cordon has been established around the site on Ferry Lane, where one warehouse containing multiple industrial units is fully alight.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade has urged people in the area to avoid Ferry Lane if possible and advised residents to keep windows and doors shut due to the high volume of smoke.

Large plumes of black smoke are visible even in Erith, which is across the River Thames from Rainham.

Emergency Response

Fire crews from Barking, East Ham, Wennington, Dagenham, and surrounding fire stations are at the scene. Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service are also supporting the operation.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have received numerous calls regarding the visible plume of smoke, believed to be linked to this fire. However, they stress the importance of reporting if you suspect there may be a fire in your area.

Official Statement from London Fire Brigade

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said:

“Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters are tackling a fire at an industrial estate on Ferry Lane in Rainham. One warehouse containing multiple industrial units is currently alight. A 25-metre cordon is in place as a precaution.

“People are advised to keep windows and doors shut in the local area due to the high volume of smoke being produced and avoid Ferry Lane if possible.

“The Brigade was called at 13:11. Fire crews from Barking, East Ham, Wennington, Dagenham, and surrounding fire stations are at the scene. Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service are supporting at the scene.

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have taken a large number of calls about a visible plume of smoke. Although we believe these calls are linked to this fire, it’s important that you do call the Brigade if you suspect there may be a fire in your area.”

Cause of the Fire

The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Emergency services are continuing their efforts to bring the blaze under control and ensure the safety of the surrounding area.
