A 21-year-old man from Warrender Road, N19, has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of Deonte Mowatt-Slater in Islington. Francie McCarthy is scheduled to appear in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 26 October.
The investigation was launched shortly after midnight on Tuesday, 22 October, when Deonte was found with critical injuries on Courtauld Road, N19. Despite efforts by emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries. A post-mortem examination conducted on Friday confirmed that he died from stab wounds.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, expressed his condolences to Deonte’s family, who are being supported by specially trained police officers. “Our thoughts remain with Deonte’s family at this extremely difficult time,” he said. He urged anyone with information to come forward, saying, “Our enquiries are progressing well, but we would continue to encourage anyone who saw anything or has any information to come forward and speak to us.”
Increased police patrols have been deployed in the area to reassure residents, and local officers are available to address any concerns.
