A man has tragically died following a suspected gas explosion at a block of flats in Pendennis Place, Penzance, on Wednesday afternoon (23 April).
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 3.10pm after reports of a loud explosion. Responding crews discovered serious damage to one of the properties and promptly evacuated residents from neighbouring flats as a precaution.
A cordon was established around the scene while investigators worked to determine the cause of the blast. That cordon has now been lifted, and authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
A number of residents affected by the incident have been provided with alternative accommodation, with local agencies offering support to those displaced.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said:
“Detectives are continuing their enquiries to establish the cause of the explosion. We’d like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation during this time.”
