Massive 1,200-Acre Wildfire Burns in Lacey Township, New Jersey as Evacuations Ordered

A massive wildfire has engulfed more than 1,200 acres in Lacey Township, New Jersey, prompting urgent evacuations and multiple road closures as firefighters battle the fast-moving blaze.
New Jersey Forest Fire Service crews are on scene alongside local fire departments, working with aircraft, bulldozers, and water tankers to contain the inferno. As of Wednesday morning, the fire remains uncontained, and efforts are focused on protecting homes and critical infrastructure.

Road closures are currently in effect, including sections of Route 539 and local access roads near Jones Road. Residents are being asked to avoid the area entirely and follow updates from emergency services.

Governor Phil Murphy addressed the wildfire in a post on social media, thanking first responders and urging residents to comply with evacuation orders.

“We are monitoring the Lacey Township wildfire closely. I urge all residents to stay safe, follow official guidance, and evacuate when directed. Our firefighters are working around the clock to contain the blaze.”

The cause of the wildfire is still under investigation, though early reports suggest it may have started in a remote wooded area before spreading rapidly.

Authorities are expected to provide additional updates throughout the day. Anyone in the area should monitor emergency alerts, local news, and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service for the latest information.
