A devastating fire broke out on Church Hill Road North in Cheam, prompting a swift response from emergency services on Saturday, May 4. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received the first of 16 distress calls reporting the fire at 8:55 am. Firefighters from Sutton, Mitcham, New Malden, and neighbouring fire stations rushed to the scene to battle the blaze.

By 10:18 am, the situation was under control, but tragically, one person lost their life in the incident. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the grim discovery, stating that officers were called to the scene shortly before 9 am. The fire had engulfed an outbuilding at residential premises, leading to the fatal outcome.
