A person has been taken to hospital after a lorry overturned on the busy Cowstead Corner roundabout on the A249 in Sheppey early this morning.
Emergency services, including fire engines and ambulance crews, rushed to the scene following reports of the accident at approximately 6:30 am on Friday, August 23, 2024. The South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that one person was assessed and treated at the scene before being transported to Medway Maritime Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service also responded to the incident, with two fire engines attending to assist Kent Police at the scene.
The overturned HGV has caused significant traffic disruption, with long queues reported along the A249 and the A2500 on Lower Road. Highway officers are currently working to recover the lorry, but the road is expected to remain closed until at least 2 pm.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
