Three lifeboats have been launched to reports of a fire on board a ferry in the Channel. There are 183 people on board the Isle of Innisfree which is currently in the middle of the English Channel The Ferry is currently in the middle of the Channel and the blaze is said to have been contained.
All passengers and crew are accounted for, and no injuries have been reported,’ says the coastguard of the ferry fire. RNLI lifeboats from Dungeness, Dover, and Ramsgate, as well as a French tug, have been dispatched. The incident is still going on.’
After a fire broke out on a ferry in the Channel, three Kent lifeboats and a French salvage tug were launched.
The lifeboats from Dover, Ramsgate, and Dungeness were dispatched to the Irish Ferries vessel, the Isle of Innisfree, which was sailing from Dover to Calais.
According to the company, the fire in the engine room had been extinguished.
The ship, carrying 94 passengers and 89 crew members, is now anchored in the Channel, with the Coastguard on hand to assist if necessary.
Irish Ferries issued the following statement: “Crews are regularly trained to deal with incidents at sea, and the company has put its training to use, extinguishing the fire.
Passengers scheduled to travel on the 19.25 Calais-Dover sailing will be transferred to alternative departures. Irish Ferries would like to sincerely apologise to all of its passengers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption to their journeys.”
HM Coastguard issued the following statement: “The ship has confirmed that the fire has been put out, but it is experiencing technical difficulties.
“All passengers and crew have been accounted, and no injuries have been reported.”
