A serious crash brought Croydon town centre to a standstill on Monday evening (September 9) as emergency services rushed to the scene. The incident occurred on Laud Street, just off Croydon High Street, around 6pm, leading to significant disruption for cars and buses in the area.

Local witnesses reported hearing a loud crash followed by “someone screaming for help multiple times,” which prompted an immediate response from emergency services. According to the Metropolitan Police, a man and woman, both in their 30s, were taken to hospital following the incident, although the exact nature of their injuries and the circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear.

Aerial images showed two ambulances, two fire engines, and an air ambulance on the roof of a nearby building. Laud Street was cordoned off between Croydon High Street and Wandle Road as emergency crews worked at the scene.

A black SUV, which appeared to have sustained damage to its front left side, was seen with firefighters using wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from moving. Witnesses at the scene claimed that a person may have been trapped under the car, although this detail could not be confirmed by the police at the time.

The road closure caused significant disruption in the area, with traffic brought to a halt and buses forced to divert. Emergency services remained on-site to investigate the incident and assist those involved. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
