Swan Rescued from Side of M27 Motorway by Animal Rescue Team

A young swan caught in brambles along the M27 motorway was safely rescued by an animal rescue officer from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) on Sunday afternoon.

The officer responded to reports of a distressed cygnet spotted on the eastbound side of the motorway between Swanwick and Swanmore, near Nursling. Working alongside Highways officers, the HIWFRS team carefully recovered the swan from the embankment.

Although the swan was not physically trapped, it appeared ruffled and disoriented, likely from straying too close to the busy motorway. Once safely removed from the brambles, the bird was handed over to the Highways team, who ensured it was released in a safer environment.

The swan’s rescue was completed promptly, with the official “stop message” — humorously dubbed the “swan-song” — received at 10:28 am.
