Ex-Firefighter Jailed for 12 Years Over Child Sex Abuse
Scott Cameron, 41, a former Merseyside firefighter, has been locked up for 12 years after abusing his role to sexually exploit a young girl. Arrested in February 2024, Cameron faces a string of horrific charges that have left the local community reeling.
Shocking Charges Laid
- Six counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15
- Sexual communication with a child
- Two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
- Meeting a child following sexual grooming
On top of this, Cameron received an extra year for similar crimes involving another victim, to run consecutively.
Branded Dangerous Offender for Life
Cameron must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. The court labelled him a “dangerous offender,” banning him from any work with children and imposing a Sexual Harm Prevention Order along with restraining orders for his victims’ protection.
Detective Inspector Tony Meakins, from the Child Criminal and Sexual Exploitation Team, said: “Cameron abused his position as a firefighter to exploit a young girl. He will now serve a long prison sentence and his career ends in disgrace. He showed no remorse and tried to shift blame onto others, even those close to him. From any angle, Scott Cameron is utterly contemptible.”
The victims and their families displayed immense courage through the traumatic ordeal, made worse by Cameron’s persistent lies and denials. Authorities hope this sentence delivers justice and aids their recovery.
Fire Service Takes Immediate Action
Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle said: “We thank Merseyside Police for their swift action and support for the victims and their families. Cameron was suspended immediately after his arrest on 2nd February and dismissed on 23rd February following a formal investigation.”
