Three People Rescued from Wreckage Following Serious Collision on Marsh Road, Hooe

Emergency services are responding to a severe road traffic collision involving a car and a van on Marsh Road in Hooe. The incident, which occurred at 11:26 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, has left three people trapped in the wreckage.

Five fire engines and the Technical Rescue Unit were dispatched to the scene, where crews are working to carefully extricate the individuals from the damaged vehicles. Police and ambulance personnel are also on-site, providing essential support and medical assistance.

Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to work without obstruction. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

A Spokesman for National Highways said: The A259 in East Sussex is closed in both directions between the A27 (Westham) and the B2182 (near Bexhill) due to a serious collision involving two vehicles.

All emergency services including Sussex Police are in attendance.

National Highways contractors will be attending to assist with traffic management.

Due to the nature of the incident, the road is expected to be closed throughout the afternoon.

Diversion Routes

Westbound diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol:

  • Exit the A259 at Belle Hill in Bexhill onto the northbound A269.
  • Remain on this until it merges with the A271 westbound where it will continue until the junction with the A22 at Lower Horsebridge.
  • Exit the A271 into the A22 southbound towards the A27 and Eastbourne.
  • At the junction with the A27 diverted traffic will have the choice either to continue west on the A27 or to return to the A259 at Pevensey.
  • To achieve this diverted traffic will be directed east along the A27 to the junction at Pevensey Haven roundabout.

Eastbound diverted traffic is advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol:

  • At the A259/A27 Pevensey Roundabout, join the A27 westbound and continue towards Polegate
  • At the Cop Hall Roundabout in Polegate, join the A22 northbound
  • Continue until the Boship Roundabout with the A271
  • Turn right onto the A271 and continue eastbound merging onto the A269 (Boreham Hill), passing through Hertsmonceux and Ninfield towards Bexhill
  • Re-join the A259 eastbound at the traffic light-controlled junction at Bexhill

A Spokesperson for Sussex Police said: Officers are currently responding to a serious two-vehicle collision on the A259 at Hooe. The road has been closed in both directions between Pevensey Roundabout and Little Common Roundabout as emergency services work at the scene, and is likely to remain closed until at least the early evening. We would advise motorists to seek alternative routes in the meantime. Thank you for your understanding.
