Tributes Paid to 15-Year-Old Izaiah Smith After Tragic Drowning at Beckenham Place Park

The community is in mourning after 15-year-old Izaiah Smith tragically lost his life following an incident at Beckenham Place Park lake on Friday evening, 6 April 2025. Izaiah, described as a hugely popular and talented footballer, was a player for Dorking Wanderers FC.

Incident Details

Police were called to the park shortly after 3 pm on Friday after reports that a teenage boy had got into difficulty in the water. Despite a seven-hour search involving specialist diving teams, ambulance crews, and firefighters, Izaiah’s body was recovered from the lake at around 10:42 pm. He was taken to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead.

A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said:
“His death is being treated as unexpected but not believed to be suspicious.”

Remembering Izaiah

In a statement on X, Izaiah’s team, Dorking Wanderers FC, expressed their devastation:
“It is of course impossible to find the words to explain what a tragedy this is. Izaiah was a hugely popular and talented young man and will be sorely missed by all that knew him. The club will provide support for all involved in whatever way we possibly can.”

A Community United in Grief

Social media has been flooded with tributes, as friends, family, and teammates come to terms with the loss. Videos shared on TikTok and Facebook feature clips and memories of Izaiah, accompanied by emotional messages. One schoolfriend wrote:
“Rest in eternal paradise. You always made sure I knew that things get better. Never did I think I would be applying that teaching to something like this. #LLIS #LLIizaiah.”
As the football community and friends continue to share stories and memories, Izaiah will be remembered as a bright, positive, and talented young man who touched the lives of many.
