Tributes have poured in for Eve McCarthy, a 21-year-old student from Shankill, Dublin, who tragically died after falling while hiking near El Caminito del Rey in Malaga, Spain.
Eve was hiking with a male companion on Friday, 12 January, when the pair accidentally veered off the designated path near the village of El Chorro. Emergency services confirmed that Eve fell from a significant height in the Swiss Sector, close to the Arabic Staircase pathway. Her companion survived by clinging to a bush after the fall.
Emergency Response
Spanish rescue teams reached the remote area but were unable to save Eve. Her body was recovered shortly after, and her companion was treated for minor injuries and shock. Local reports suggest the pair mistakenly took a dangerous, unmarked descent.
