Woman dies in Flat Fire in Chingford

A woman has died in a fire at a 3 storey block of flats on Connington Crescent. More than 70 firefighters are tackled the blaze. Over 70 firefighters and officers are currently dealing with fire in a flat on Connington Crescent, Chingford. 12 people left the block before the arrival of the Brigade and sadly, a woman was confirmed dead at the scene. At the height of the fire, around half of the ground and first floor plus all of the roof of the 3 storey block was alight. Good progress is being made but crews expect to be tackling hot spots for some time. Station Manager Keith Wilson who is at the scene said: “Firefighters have been working hard to contain the spread of the fire which has destroyed the roof. Crews expect to be here into the day, tackling hot spots.” 10 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from stations including Woodford, Chingford, Walthamstow, Enfield and Leytonston fire stations are in attendance. The Brigade was called at just after 2am The cause of the fires is not known at this time.
