Huge Fire Tears Through Hamilton Terrace Church
Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters have rushed to tackle a ferocious blaze at a church on Hamilton Terrace, St John’s Wood. The entire two-storey building is engulfed in flames.
Police have evacuated several nearby properties as thick smoke billows across the neighbourhood.
London Fire Brigade Deploys Tallest Ladder in Europe
Firefighters are battling the inferno using powerful equipment, including two new 32-metre turntable ladders and a colossal 64-metre turntable ladder – the tallest in Europe – to douse the flames from above.
The Brigade’s 999 Control officers have received almost 30 urgent calls about the fire, which sparked just after 11.19pm on Thursday night. Crews from North Kensington, Paddington, West Hampstead and other stations are all on the scene.
Smoke Blankets Area – Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
The blaze is producing heavy smoke, prompting police to advise locals to keep all windows and doors shut for safety.
London Ambulance Service Responds Swiftly
“We were called at 11:46pm on Thursday 26 January to reports of a fire at Hamilton Terrace, NW8. We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, and members of our hazardous area response team,” a spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said.
“The incident is ongoing and we are working closely with our emergency service colleagues.”
The cause of the fire remains unknown as firefighters continue their efforts to bring the inferno under control.
