Police in the New Forest are investigating a suspicious incident that happened in Lymington at around 3:40pm on Tuesday 21 March. A 10 year-old girl was walking home when a man she did not know, who was driving a small black van, pulled up alongside her on Highfield Avenue and Southern Road and spoke to her briefly. The man did not get out of the van and no physical contact was made with the girl. The girl ran home and was not hurt. She described the man as: White. He had a shaved head. He had a black beard. He was wearing black clothing. Inspector Richard Parsons said: “We are not currently linking this incident with any other reports made to us, but would like to take this opportunity to remind people to report any suspicious incidents by calling 101 “We would like to ask children and parents alike to remain vigilant and aware of personal safety. Remind children of stranger danger, try to arrange to walk to school with them or with friends, and stick together. “Officers have been patrolling this area of Lymington to ensure that children and parents feel safe. More often than not, these types of incidents turn out to have innocent explanations, however we would like to reassure the community that we take reports like this seriously and that a thorough investigation is being undertaken”.
