East Sussex Fire Service's Safety Plea For Proper Battery Charging

Firefighters raced to a huge blaze at a rundown building in Eastbourne that’s now at risk of collapse.

Firefighters Battle Flames Amid Strong Winds

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire on Ashburnham Road just before 5pm on Thursday, March 12. The derelict building’s first floor and roof space were engulfed in flames.

“There are strong winds and crews worked hard to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties,” the fire service said. No injuries have been reported so far, but the cause remains unknown.

Area Locked Down as Firefighters Brace for Long Haul

The public has been urged to avoid the area as the building is badly damaged and might collapse. Relief crews took over the scene by 9.15pm, supported by a Command Unit and Joint Fire Control after multiple 999 calls.

“We ask that you continue to avoid the area,” said East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters are expected to stay through the night to tackle the blaze and prevent further damage.
