Emergency services were scrambled at around 5.20pm on Wednesday, April 30, following reports the boy got into trouble swimming at Colwick Country Park. Despite frantic rescue efforts involving police divers and specialist teams, the body was recovered shortly before 8pm.

Family in Mourning, Police Issue Safety Warning

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed the family has been informed and is receiving support from specially-trained officers. Chief Inspector David Mather said:

“Emergency services have sadly recovered the body of a teenage boy from the lake, despite the best efforts of rescue teams. This is a tragic discovery and our thoughts are with this boy’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

He warned the public about the hidden dangers of open waters, especially as warmer weather tempts people to swim unsupervised.

Fire Rescue and Council Echo Warnings

Group Manager Tom Staples of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue added:

“Despite the tireless efforts of all the emergency services involved, we are deeply saddened by this outcome. We urge everyone to take extreme care around lakes, rivers, and other natural bodies of water.”

Meanwhile, Nottingham City Council’s Councillor Sam Lux urged caution during the ongoing warm spell:

“As the current warm spell continues, we urge people to only enter the water during supervised sessions.

Investigation Underway, Not Treated as Suspicious

The teenager’s death is not being treated as suspicious. Authorities are preparing a file for the Coroner. Police continue to stress the importance of caution around open water, especially during summer months.
