A married father of four sparked a £30,000 fire at a Bradford business before hitting a takeaway for cash and charity boxes just four months later. Mohammed Mobasher, 45, from Weetwood Road, Girlington, has been locked up for five-and-a-half years after being found guilty of arson, burglary, and perverting justice.
Firestorm at Bradford Tile Centre
The Bradford Crown Court heard Mobasher deliberately used an accelerant to torch the Bradford Tile Centre on Thornton Road. The blaze caused significant damage to the single-storey premises, costing an estimated £30,000 to fix. Mobasher’s attempt to cover his tracks failed, with a jury convicting him in January.
Burglary While on Bail
Undeterred by the ongoing investigation, Mobasher broke into a local takeaway while on bail, swiping petty cash and charity boxes. The jury found him guilty of this second burglary, sealing his fate behind bars.
“The scale and brazenness of these offences have earned a hefty sentence,” said the Crown Court.
Mobasher’s five-and-a-half-year prison term sends a clear warning to offenders: crime doesn’t pay.
