Wallington commuters faced a nightmare this morning after a person was tragically struck by a train between Sutton and West Croydon. The incident forced Southern Rail to slam the station shut, grinding all services to a halt and sparking major delays.

Transport Chaos as Buses Diverted

With trains out of action, dozens of passengers were left stranded. Local bus routes 127, 151, 157, 410, 463, 612, 627, 633, and S4 were forced to divert, adding to the chaos. Manor Road near the station was partially blocked, piling on more delays in the area.

Trains Back But Travel Hell Continues

Services cautiously resumed from 4:06am between Sutton and West Croydon, but delays and cancellations persisted well into the morning rush. National Rail first warned that disruption could last until 10am, later pushing that back to 11am. Fortunately, by 7:15am, Southern announced trains were returning to normal, ending the travel misery.

Tragic Death Confirmed by Police

British Transport Police confirmed the devastating news: one person died after being hit by the train. Emergency crews swarmed Wallington station early this morning.

“A person has died after a casualty on track,” confirmed British Transport Police.
