A drug-fuelled crash has ended in tragedy with a man locked up for 13 and a half years for causing the deaths of his own brother and 12-year-old nephew.
Michael Webb Sentenced for Deadly Crash
Michael Webb, 35, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court this morning. He was sentenced for two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and found to be under the influence of cocaine during the fatal smash.
The horror crash happened just before 9pm on Saturday, August 30, on John Reid Road, South Shields, South Tyneside. Webb was driving a Skoda Octavia when he lost control, smashing into a lamppost before careering into a tree.
Two Loved Ones Lost in Tragedy
Tragically, passengers in Webb’s car, 40-year-old Peter Webb and 12-year-old Ben Webb, died at the scene.
Webb, from Park Avenue, South Shields, initially pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while under the influence. However, he later admitted to the more serious charge of causing death by dangerous driving on January 15.
Family Mourns ‘Ray of Sunshine’ and ‘Kind Human’
“Our world has been completely torn apart,” the family said in a heart-breaking tribute.
They remembered Peter as “a kind wonderful human who would do anything for his family” and Ben as an “incredible ray of sunshine with an unbelievable sense of humour.”
Northumbria Police confirmed the sentence this morning, highlighting the grave dangers of drug-driving on UK roads.
