Tragedy Strikes at M1 Junction 37
An elderly man was fatally hit by a white DAF Trucks HGV on the southbound carriageway of the M1 motorway at junction 37 near Barnsley. The horrific crash happened at around 2:15am on Saturday, 28 February. Despite emergency services rushing to the scene, the man was declared dead at once.
Police Search for Witnesses and Next of Kin
South Yorkshire Police confirmed identification is pending as officers work to contact the victim’s next of kin. Investigators have urged anyone who saw the man before the collision—either on Dodworth Road or the southbound entry slip road—to come forward.

Police statements said: “At 2.15am today, we were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a white DAF Trucks HGV and a pedestrian on the M1 southbound at junction 37. Unfortunately, the pedestrian, an elderly man, died at the scene despite best efforts.”
