Scott Cameron, 41, a former firefighter, has been locked up for 12 years after abusing his position to sexually exploit a young girl. The Merseyside man, arrested in February 2024, faces a slew of vile charges that shocked the community.
Jail Sentence Details
- Six counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15
- Sexual communication with a child
- Two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
- Meeting a child following sexual grooming
Cameron was also sentenced to an additional year for similar offences involving a separate victim, to run consecutively.
Branded Dangerous Offender
Cameron must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. Classified as a “dangerous offender,” he is banned from working with children and subject to both a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders for his victims.
Detective Inspector Tony Meakins from the Child Criminal and Sexual Exploitation Team said: “Cameron abused his position as a firefighter to exploit a young girl. He will now serve a long prison sentence and his career ends in disgrace. He showed no remorse and tried to shift blame onto others, even those close to him. From any angle, Scott Cameron is utterly contemptible.”
The victims and their families showed immense courage throughout the traumatic process, worsened by Cameron’s repeated denials and lies. Authorities hope this sentence brings justice and helps their healing.
Fire Service Reacts
Chief Fire Officer Nick Searle commented, “We thank Merseyside Police for their swift action and support for the victims and their families. Cameron was suspended immediately after his arrest on 2nd February and dismissed on 23rd February following a formal investigation.”
