Fine Dining Curry House in Southsea Closes after just Ten Month Trading

A Southsea curry house, which promised fine dining in plush surroundings, has closed after just ten months. Jhilmil situated in Osborne Road, on the site of the former Jewel in the Crown curry house, was opened by the Lord Mayor last Summer with great fanfare after a £100,000 refurbishment – including ornate chandeliers and a hand-painted mural of the Taj Mahal – but has now been repossessed after being unable to pay its rent. A letter from the landlord in the window simply states that, “The locks for the above premises have been changed for non-payment of the rent.” Whether the ‘fine dining’ experience promised, or the unpronounceable name, put people off is unsure, but Osborne Road has otherwise becoming a thriving hotspot for eateries, offering tastes from around the globe, in recent years.
