Former Partner of Murdered Southampton Boxer appeals for Information

Jenny Downey, partner of murder victim Michael Freshwater, talks about her loss and appeals for information. Michael’s body was found at an address in Westridge Road at around 4.15pm on Friday, April 29. Hampshire Constabulary’s Major Crime Team launched a murder investigation immediately. The independent charity Crimestoppers has since offered a £10,000 reward for information in relation to the murder. Now over three weeks on, Jenny has said how Michael, aka Micky had been ‘taken away so cruelly’ and that she ‘just wants him back.’ Jenny said: “Micky is already sorely missed by so many people. My phone has not stopped ringing. So many people have sent their condolences and how they can’t believe he’s gone. His friends describe him as a wonderful man, a true gentleman. They told me he lit up their lives. “Micky always got great satisfaction from helping others. He was a very selfless person and got involved with volunteer work to make other people smile and make them happy. I can’t believe he has been taken away from us.” “There is so much I miss about him. He had the most wonderful infectious laugh that you couldn’t help but laugh with him. He helped so many people and never wanted anything back in return. He was so popular in our local community, always chatting with our neighbours. Everyone loved him. “I still can’t accept he’s gone and still expect to see him walking through the front door with a big smile on his face, or planting new flowers in the garden which he enjoyed doing so much. There are so many things we had planned for this summer, going on a family holiday, redecorating the house, and going to Bournemouth beach for the day where we loved to go. “Micky was the love of my life, my rock, my best friend, my world, my everything. I will never stop missing him or loving him. I feel so lost without him and the pain never ends. Nothing makes sense anymore. I can’t believe it and don’t want to believe it – my perfect gentleman, my Micky. I just feel so broken and so empty. “I know I won’t ever get over this, I just want him back. And I just want to know what happened and get justice for something that is so, so cruel.” Police continue to appeal for information regarding the murder of Michael Freshwater. Call 101 and quote Operation Windless. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or report online.
