A mysterious glowing orb seen drifting across the sky in Collier Row has sparked widespread curiosity and speculation online, with similar sightings reported across the UK.
The unusual footage, taken from a garden on Mount Pleasant Road shortly after 8pm on Sunday night (March 24), shows a bright, swirling light in the sky. The orb appears to surround a wavy shape resembling the letter ‘S’, moving in a spinning motion and shining far brighter than the surrounding stars.
Local residents and stargazers were left wondering about the origin of the strange light, as similar sightings were also reported in Greater Manchester and other parts of the country.
One social media user wrote: “Just saw this weird glowing spiral in the sky — anyone know what that was?!”
Experts believe the phenomenon is linked to a recent SpaceX satellite launch in the United States. The glowing “orb” and its spiral motion are characteristic of a spectacle that occurs when a rocket jettisons excess fuel. The fuel freezes in the upper atmosphere, creating the bright spiral effect visible from the ground.
The distinct ‘S’-shaped spiral is thought to be caused by the motion of the rocket as it moves through space, with the glow resulting from sunlight reflecting off the frozen fuel particles.
While the sight may have sparked UFO theories in some circles, astronomers and space enthusiasts have reassured the public that it’s simply science — and a pretty spectacular one at that.
