Warning: Sophisticated Vehicle Tax Scam Email Could Fool Even the Savvy

Motorists across the UK are being urged to remain vigilant after a convincing scam email pretending to be from the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) has begun circulating.

The email, appearing to come from “[email protected],” falsely claims that the recipient’s recent vehicle tax payment was unsuccessful and urges them to update payment details immediately to avoid fines of up to £1,000.
One recipient noted:

You could really fall for this — especially if you happen to be renewing your vehicle tax! Who starts an email with ‘Welcome’ anyway?

Official DVLA Advice

The DVLA reminds drivers:

  • It never sends emails or texts that ask for personal or payment information.
  • Always access services through the official GOV.UK website.
  • If in doubt, do not click links. Instead, contact DVLA directly through verified contact methods.
