M40 SHUT DOWN NEAR OXFORD AFTER SERIOUS CRASH – MOTORISTS WARNED TO AVOID AREA
The M40 motorway in Buckinghamshire is closed in both directions near Oxford following a major crash. The smash is causing chaos for drivers during Monday’s busy travel hours.
Complete Closure Between Key Junctions
The southbound carriageway is shut between Junction 9 (Bicester) and Junction 8A (Tiddington). Meanwhile, the northbound side is closed between Junction 8 (Wheatley) and Junction 9. Emergency crews from Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are on the scene, with National Highways Traffic Officers managing the snarled-up traffic and diversions.
Sharp Diversions in Place – Follow the Signs
Southbound drivers must follow the hollow triangle diversion:
- Exit the M40 at J9
- Take the A34 southbound towards Oxford
- At Peartree Roundabout, switch to the A44 south towards the A40 Wolvercote Roundabout
- Continue along the A40 eastbound for 10 miles to rejoin the M40 at J8
Northbound motorists should spot the hollow diamond signs and follow:
- Exit the M40 at J8, head west on A40
- At Headington Roundabout, take the A4142 southbound
- Join the A34 northbound at Hinksey Hill Interchange
- Re-enter the M40 northbound at J9
