A frantic search is in full swing off Tyneside after a man went missing from a DFDS ferry crossing from the Netherlands to North Shields.

Over 30 Lifeboat Volunteers Join Coastguard Hunt

The missing man, believed to be in his 60s, disappeared around 12.15pm. More than 30 brave RNLI volunteers from six stations – Filey, Scarborough, Whitby, Hartlepool, Tynemouth, and Blyth – are combing the waters alongside a UK Coastguard helicopter based at Humberside.

Mayday Broadcast Sounds Alarm for All Nearby Vessels

HM Coastguard has issued a Mayday relay alert, warning all boats in the area to keep a lookout. Northumbria Police have also been informed, joining the ongoing search effort.
