Dramatic Theft Outside Stoke Hospital
A 31-year-old man has been arrested after swiping an ambulance carrying a patient, a paramedic, and another passenger from outside Royal Stoke University Hospital. The shocking incident happened just before 8.15pm on Wednesday, 25 March.
All Onboard Safe and Sound
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed none of those inside the vehicle were hurt. The stolen ambulance was later found at an Esso petrol station near Chesterton, on the A34 at the Liverpool Road and London Road junction.
Police Stop and Arrest Suspect
Staffordshire Police helped bring the ambulance to a safe stop. The suspect from Stoke-on-Trent is now in custody, facing charges of kidnapping, vehicle theft, drink driving, and refusing to provide a breath sample.
Official Statements and Ongoing Investigation
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “At the time the ambulance was taken, a paramedic, a patient, and a second passenger were onboard, all uninjured. A second ambulance was dispatched to transport the patient safely. We are working with Staffordshire Police to investigate the incident.”
