Benjamin Bird has been jailed at Newport Crown Court after admitting a series of violent attacks on his then-partner during their eight-month relationship.
Chilling Attacks Escalate Over Months
The abuse began in April 2024 after an argument over the victim speaking to another man in a pub. Bird, 36, strangled her for 10 terrifying seconds.
Three months later, while in a taxi home from a night out, he accused her of cheating, punched her in the face, spat at her, and threatened to kill her dog when she told him to get out.
When she ran home, Bird was already there. He struck her again, knocking her unconscious.
Violence Peaks with Metal Bar Threat
In October 2024, Bird returned to the victim’s address to collect his clothes. Instead, he lunged at her with a metal bar.
Bird pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation and suffocation, threatening with an offensive weapon, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
