Two Men Try to Snatch Woman in Oldham – Passer-by Saves the Day

Lancashire Police are hunting for witnesses after a chilling attempted kidnapping in Oldham on Friday, 14 July 2023.

Attack Near Lily & Godson Streets

At around 8pm BST, a woman walking near the junction of Lily Street and Godson Street was grabbed by two men in a small white van. The pair threatened her and tried to force her into their vehicle.

Thankfully, a brave passer-by walking his dog stepped in. Startled, the men sped off up Godson Street toward Crompton Street.

Suspects Described – Police Launch Door-to-Door Appeals

  • Suspect 1: White male, mid-30s, about 6ft tall, medium build, dark short hair, goatee, sleeve tattoo on right arm.
  • Suspect 2: White male, around 5’5″, skinny build, blond hair, small moustache, stubble.

Police are backing the victim and pressing on with a full investigation. Chief Inspector Matthew Walker of GMP’s Oldham district pledged the force is taking the matter “extremely seriously”.

Extra patrols have hit the streets to reassure locals and clamp down on crime.

“We urge anyone who saw anything or was nearby at the time to get in touch,” said Chief Inspector Walker. “Especially the dog walker who intervened – your account is crucial.”

The police also asked residents to check doorbell cams, dashcams, and CCTV for any footage that could identify the suspects.
