Police detain Man after attempting to Jump from Portsmouth Round Tower into the Harbour

Police have this evening  successfully detained  a man after he  attempted to jump from the Round Tower into freezing water in Old Portsmouth. Police officers  supported by a  Coastguard Rescue team from Portsmouth and a lifeboat where called to the scene just after 9.30pm on Sunday to a distressed man . The Ministry of Defence Police launch the Sir Geoffrey Rackham first alerted officers on land to the distressed man. Officers from Hampshire Police rushed to the scene of the Hot Walls in Old Portsmouth. Calling  on the support of  a  Lifeboat to assist in detaining the man as it was first thought that the man was in the water. The Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Independent  Lifeboat was scrambled but stood down after Police managed to detain the man who is now in Police Custody being assisted by health professionals.
