West Midlands Police have reissued an urgent appeal to trace Andrew Dill, who vanished from Birmingham over 20 years ago in a case that remains one of their longest-standing missing person investigations. Andrew, a 38-year-old Birmingham City fan at the time, went missing after being dropped off at Hednesford Train Station on 28 April 2003 by his then-girlfriend, with his last known call to a friend made the following day. Despite extensive efforts, including searches of his flat and the nearby canal, no trace has been found since.
Vanished Without Trace
Andrew lived near the Birmingham city centre waterside and was heading home towards New Street station that April evening. His sudden disappearance was out of character, with no clue left behind. Initial investigations discovered nothing unusual in his home, which appeared ready for his return.
Early Appeals Made
Following his father’s missing person report in May 2003, police appeals were issued, including one displayed during a Birmingham City versus Wolverhampton Wanderers football match. Friends and family attempted contact multiple times but faced declined calls, adding to the mystery.
Renewed Police Efforts
Officers from the West Midlands Police Missing Persons Review Team have reignited the search with hopes someone might recall details about Andrew’s life or possible sightings. PC Rob Jones emphasised Andrew’s disappearance was uncharacteristic, noting the man sometimes used the surname Dillon and was well-connected socially at the time.
Key Items Sought
The police are particularly interested in information about a Sky Blue Nokia 3310 phone with dark blue trim, reportedly lost in Birmingham city centre between late April and early May 2003.
“We really want to find Andrew or find out what happened to him in late April and early May 2003 so his family can at last get the answers they deserve,” said PC Jones.
Anyone with even the smallest detail is urged to contact West Midlands Police directly at 0121 626 7003.
