Blaze Erupts Behind City Centre Hotel
Chaos hit Liverpool city centre when fire crews, police, and ambulances swarmed Old Hall Street this evening. The Radisson Blu Hotel was swiftly evacuated after reports of a fire sparked behind the building.
Eyewitness photos reveal flames raging near bins and skips behind the hotel. At least four fire engines rushed to tackle the blaze, with more than half a dozen ambulances and rapid response vehicles supporting the emergency effort.
Old Hall Street Shut Amid Emergency Response
Police blocked access to Old Hall Street at the Leeds Street junction as emergency services battled the incident. The busy road remained closed for some time before reopening later in the night.
Guests Flee in Panic with No Time to Gather Belongings
Hotel guests described a terrifying evacuation as alarms blared nonstop. One guest told reporters: “The alarms were all going off. They tried to turn them off, but couldn’t, so everyone had to get out. I was sleeping and just ran downstairs without my phone, coat, or even socks. Now we’re standing outside in the cold for over an hour.”
Others reported being locked out after trying to return to the hotel amid the chaos.
All Clear Given, Guests Allowed Back Inside
Thankfully, after the fire was brought under control, the evacuated guests were permitted to return. Ambulances cleared the street, and emergency crews stood down, ending the tense few hours on Old Hall Street.
