Three brothers have been found guilty of a shocking sex-crime spree that haunted Rotherham nearly two decades ago. Their sick spree victimised five people, including four children.
‘Killer’ Amar Ilyas Flees After Conviction
The ringleader, Amar Ilyas, 41, earned the chilling nickname “Killer” during the time of the offences. He terrified victims with gun threats, promises of gang rape, and even resorted to biting one of the abused. Amar was convicted last September in absentia after fleeing the UK. Until now, details were kept under wraps while his brothers faced trial.
Brothers Kamran and Kamar Also Found Guilty
Amar’s siblings, Kamran Ilyas, 38, and Kamar Ilyas, 39, were found guilty of five sexual offences against one of the girls their brother also abused. The nightmare unfolded between 2004 and 2008, victims recount grooming and violence.
Operation Stovewood Uncovers Dark Crimes
These three are the latest to be hauled in under Operation Stovewood — the National Crime Agency’s investigation into historic sex abuse in Rotherham, launched in 2018. The probe started when officers spoke to a woman who revealed she had been groomed and raped by Kamar and abused by the other brothers.
