A Metropolitan Police officer, once the shining face of the Met’s recruitment drive, has been charged with stalking and harassment. PC Samson Akinnawo, 35, allegedly tracked a woman’s movements and flooded her with unwanted contact over several months.
High-Profile Officer in Hot Water
Akinnawo, who serves in the Met’s Specialist Operations unit, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court accused of harassing a woman named Melieka Daley. The claims cover June to August last year and follow his July 2025 arrest, Scotland Yard confirmed.

From Recruitment Star to Courtroom Drama
Akinnawo’s charges carry extra weight given his role in the Met’s “Change Needs You” recruitment campaign launched in July 2024. He was a prominent figure, sharing his lifelong dream of joining the police and urging others to enlist.
Before joining the force, he worked as a prison officer and a bus driver. Akinnawo lives on Walton Road, Newham, and is currently suspended while legal proceedings are underway.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
At court, Akinnawo pleaded guilty to a separate charge: refusing to give police the passcode to his phone in November last year. District Judge Lisa Towell granted him conditional bail.
He is set to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 10 April, where he will face formal stalking and harassment charges. The case’s outcome will determine what happens next.
