Body Found in Sandwich Water Sparks Emergency Response

Kent Police and Rescue teams sprang into action Tuesday morning after a shocking discovery in Sandwich.

Body Spotted by Road Sweeper

At 9.22am, Kent Fire and Rescue sent a fire engine and officer to Rope Walk to assist police. Earlier, just after 8.30am, a road sweeper spotted a body in the water. This came following a welfare concern reported to Kent Police in the morning.

Coastguards in drysuits were seen searching the water, while part of Rope Walk was cordoned off by police to secure the scene.

Man in His 50s Pronounced Dead

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to Woodnesborough Road, Sandwich at 9am on Tuesday 29 November 2022 following concern for a man in the area. Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service and a man in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the coroner as investigations continue.
