Devastating Explosion Rocks Jersey Tower Block
A massive explosion ripped through a three-story tower block at Haut du Mont on Pier Road, St Helier, Jersey, in the early hours of Saturday morning. The catastrophic blast killed at least three people and left around a dozen missing.
Police described the scene as “utter devastation.” The building “completely collapsed” and “doesn’t even look like a building,” officials revealed.
Emergency Teams Rush In
Emergency services were called to the blast around 4 a.m. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were hospitalised with minor injuries.
Despite initial reports that the fire caused by the explosion was out, “pockets of fire” were still discovered hours later. Police warned the site remains “highly unsafe.”
Specialist teams pitched in, including the South West Hazardous Area Response Team, Hampshire’s elite Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) squad, and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Officials Call Incident a Tragic Accident
Chief Minister Kristina Moore expressed heartbreak over the tragedy. She praised the “resilience, skill, and dedication” of emergency crews and the community. “Our island experienced an unimaginable tragedy,” she said.
States of Jersey Police Chief Robin Smith warned the search for missing people “could go on for days, if not weeks.” He described the recovery work as slow and methodical but urged the public to stay strong and patient. “This isn’t going to end today,” he said.
Specially trained officers have been deployed to support those affected at Jersey town hall, with assistance set to continue long beyond the immediate search and rescue effort.
