Startling footage captured by a doorbell camera in Horsham reveals the moment when a youth allegedly brandished a firearm in Thompson Road, Broadbridge Heath. Police received a distress call at 10:52 pm on Saturday, June 17, reporting the presence of an armed individual in the area.
Investigations led authorities to CCTV footage showing three youths, potentially two boys and a girl, strolling along the road approximately 30 minutes prior to the incident. One of the individuals swiftly concealed the weapon upon noticing members of the public nearby. Witnesses observed the trio continuing their walk, crossing the intersection with Sargent Way before vanishing from sight.
Police are appealing for information to identify the youths involved, specifically the individual in possession of the weapon, who was seen wearing a white hooded top.
Expressing concern over the incident, Horsham District policing commander, Ch Insp Sarah Leadbetter, emphasized that carrying a weapon in such a manner is not only unusual but also illegal. While it is possible that it was an act of bravado, the police stress that anyone found carrying a weapon in such a manner is committing an offence. Reports of this nature may prompt a full-scale response from tactical firearms officers, who will treat any sighting as a significant threat, given the potential danger.
Sussex Police urges anyone who recognises the individuals or possesses information about the incident to come forward. Reports can be submitted online or by dialling 101, quoting the serial number 1869 of 17.06. Alternatively, individuals can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously via their online platform or by calling 0800 555 111.
