Trump has secured victories in several key states, with betting platforms now estimating his chances of winning as high as 91%.
Trump has already won in traditionally Republican states such as Texas, Florida, and Ohio, as well as swing states like Georgia, where he currently holds a five-point lead with most votes counted. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris has picked up wins in Vermont, Colorado, and New York, though Democrats express concern about her performance in suburban counties critical to securing the presidency.
In Loudoun County, Virginia, a traditionally Democratic-leaning suburb, Harris’s support has slipped to 57-58%, a drop from the 62% President Joe Biden received in 2020. Democratic strategist James Carville voiced his concerns, calling early voting results “not sterling” for Harris, though he noted strong Democratic turnout in Philadelphia as a potential boost.
One major shift in the election landscape has been Trump’s unexpected win in Miami-Dade County, Florida, marking the first Republican victory in the county since 1988. The significant swing in Trump’s favour highlights changing voter dynamics in typically Democratic strongholds.
Adding to the night’s intrigue, Elon Musk was spotted at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Trump has reportedly promised Musk a role in his administration if he wins, potentially as the head of a proposed “government efficiency commission.”
With results still coming in from key battleground states, including Arizona, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, the path to victory for Harris narrows. The New York Times currently projects Trump’s chance of victory at over 70%, while betting sites Polymarket and PredictIt reflect a similar sentiment.
