The lucky feline was rescued by a neighbour and handed over to Feline Care Cat Rescue, who launched a mission to find her owners.
Efforts were made to track down the culprits responsible for the cruel act by appealing to nearby residents to check their CCTV and video doorbell footage. With the help of a microchip scan, the rescue centre discovered that the cat was originally named Cleo and registered to an address in Horsford.
Thanks to a Facebook appeal, Frankie’s “very relieved owners” were located, and the rescue centre shared the happy ending with its followers. It was revealed that Cleo had been known as Frankie for the past 17 years. Her owners had taken her in when neighbours moved out and left her behind.
The microchip was not up to date because it had moved all the way down to Frankie’s elbow since being implanted in May 2011. Her owners were surprised to learn her real date of birth, which was two years older than they had thought. They expressed their gratitude for having Frankie back home and vowed to keep her indoors under close supervision.
Meanwhile, residents near the location where Frankie was dumped are actively reviewing their video doorbell footage to help identify the children responsible for the act of cruelty.
This heartwarming reunion serves as a reminder of the importance of microchipping pets and the power of community efforts in reuniting lost or mistreated animals with their rightful owners. The swift response from the neighbour, Feline Care Cat Rescue, and the local community has ensured a happy ending for Frankie/Cleo and her loving family.
