A sexual health doctor exploited his position to assault patients and secretly film them during medical exams. Dr Timothy Girling, 55, of West Molesey, Surrey, has been jailed for six years after prosecutors proved his crimes were part of a disturbing and ongoing pattern—not isolated incidents.
Gross Abuse of Trust in Bournemouth Clinic
Girling carried out intimate medical checks at a Bournemouth centre, taking advantage of patients attending what they thought were routine appointments. In one shocking case, he touched a patient’s genitals without consent, pretending it was part of a necessary examination. The victim later heard a mobile phone recording behind a curtain and spotted Girling hiding an iPhone in his pocket—sparking a major police probe.
Hidden Filming Uncovered—More Victims Come Forward
Dorset Police seized Girling’s phone, finding intimate images of multiple patients. One man had been targeted repeatedly for over a year. Investigators also discovered Girling coaxed a patient into emailing him nude photos and secretly recorded a young patient without consent during a brief check. More covert videos surfaced during a search of Girling’s home. Police confirmed none had any medical purpose—these were made purely for his own sick gratification.
Convicted on Multiple Charges, Including Child Porn Offences
Girling was found guilty of voyeurism by a jury and later admitted to three counts of making indecent images of children. The most serious Category A images were discovered on his laptop. In all, he was sentenced for:
- Three counts of sexual assault
- Six counts of voyeurism
- One count of attempted voyeurism
- Three counts of making indecent images of children
Lucy Paddick, Crown Prosecution Service, said Girling “repeatedly violated” the sacred trust placed in him, calling his behaviour “deeply calculated” and disguised as legitimate medical practice.
Detective Constable Kit Little of Dorset Police praised the victims for their bravery and confirmed the force had worked “tirelessly” since the first report in August 2023 to bring Girling to justice.
